Advantages of Credit Card Rewards
There are financial gurus that talk about how paying for everything in cash is the way to go. The true secret to financial freedom is self control. Credit cards aren’t the problem, rather it is how you use them. If you can pay your bill off monthly, credit cards can offer a world of advantages. If you can earn rewards for the purchases you make everyday, wouldn’t that interest you? You can earn cash back, airline miles, or reward points just by using a credit card. Those rewards can help pay for a trip, put cash in your pocket, or even get you free merchandise. To get the greatest benefit you wouldn’t want to carry a balance and pay interest. It would be best to set aside the cash you would have used and put that towards your credit card bill.
Selecting the Best Rewards Credit Card
There are literally hundreds of different rewards credit cards available, but how do you know which cards will provide you the best rewards? First you need to decide what type of reward is best for you. Once you made your choice between airline miles, cash back, or reward points, then you need to look at the features that those cards have to offer. When we developed our rankings, we took into account annual fee, introductory rates, on-going interest rates, and how quickly you can earn rewards. All that can be a lot to consider for someone who doesn’t review cards on a daily basis. For this reason we formed our Top 5 Rewards Card list.
The Different Types of Reward Cards
There are three main types of credit card rewards. The most popular type would be cash back. If you prefer the ultimate flexibility that cash offers, a cash back credit card might be your choice. The second most popular would be earning travel rewards. If you like taking trips and want to save for a vacation, airline miles or hotel points might be right for you. Finally there are reward points. In most instances you can use reward points to receive free merchandise, gift cards, airline tickets, cash back, and more. While points do offer flexibility, if they are used for airline tickets or cash back, they generally don’t redeem at the same rate as if you had a card that specialized in that type of reward. So if you prefer to earn cash back or airline miles, we recommend you choice a reward card that has that feature as the main focus.
