Importance of a Small Business Credit Card

If you own a small business, chances are that you have made a purchase every now and then on your personal credit card for a business need. It is best to keep your personal financials separated from the financial dealings of your business. If for some reason your were unfortunate to have a lawsuit brought against you, the plaintiff’s lawyers will work to argue that you didn’t run your business like a true business to remove the corporate veil that you have protecting you personally from liability. Right or wrong, these things do happen but you can avoid this by getting and using a business credit card. Once you get the card you would put all of your business purchases on it from that point forward. This will also simplify your accounting as you will have all your business purchases on one credit card statement and you won’t have to separate your personal and business expenses.

Choosing the Best Business Credit Card

Not all business cards are alike. They all have different interest rates, annual fees, and rewards. Some cards might also be charge cards which means that the bill must be paid in full every month. We we did our research to create our rankings, we took all of those items into account. There are some very attractive offers available online. The rewards being offers by some of these cards are the best we have ever seen. These rewards can be earned in the form or airline miles, cash back, or points. Some of these cards let you earn at a higher rate when you make certain purchases like office supplies. Based on our reviews, we have complied our listing of the best business credit cards by overall value to small business owners.

How Business Credit Has Changed

Business credit had been flowing freely prior to the financial difficulties that the banks and many Americans were facing. Many small businesses were unable to pay their credit card bills and one of the largest business credit card companies, Advanta, went under. That left thousands of businesses without a credit card, but because of the times, there weren’t many banks willing to lend due to the risk. With the financial marketplace improving, lending is starting to open up again and the banks are looking to increase the number of business cardholders that they have. While the interest rates that the banks charge aren’t as good as they used to be, they are still extremely reasonable. There are a few things that have improved. The first is the variety of credit card offerings available to small business owners. The number of cards offering 0% intro rates and rewards have increased. Another thing that has improved is the quality of the rewards being offers and the rate at which you can earn them.
