Credit Cards for People with No Credit History

So you have no credit history and it is difficult to find a credit card company that will approve you. There are some traditional credit card issuers and some prepaid card companies that can help. Capital One for example has a credit card designed for people who are new to the United States that are looking for a credit card. They have another card that is designed for U.S. residents looking to establish their credit history. Besides the traditional cards, there are prepaid cards that can also provide you the opportunity to build your credit history. They are relatively new. They will report your history with them to the major credit bureaus. If you are interested in a prepaid card with that option, make sure that feature is listed. If the reason that you have no credit history is because you are a college student, please check out our student credit cards page.

Picking the Right Credit Cards for No Credit

Like with any credit card, the main items you need to consider for a credit card for no credit history is very similar. The first thing is the annual fee. Most cards of this type will charge an annual fee. Anything that is $39 or less per year is fairly reasonable based on the research that we have done. The next thing that you need to consider is the interest rates. These rates will be much higher than most credit cards, but that is because you don’t have an established credit history. As you build your history, you will be presented with much better credit card offers in the future. Anything above 24.9% is unreasonable and you shouldn’t apply for a card that has interest rates higher than that. If you are considering a prepaid card, you will want to analyze the fees that they charge and see if they offer a credit building feature. We took all of these items into consideration when we formed our Top 5 No Credit Credit Cards list.
