Make sure you are protected

As most of you start winding up your holiday shopping and some of you start your holiday shopping, it’s important to know that what you bought is protected. What do I mean?

Did you know that if you buy something with an American Express card and it’s lost, damaged, or stolen within the first 90 days, American Express will replace the item or reimburse you up to the amount of the purchase price? Yes, you heard me right. Most shoppers don’t know this and it’s not something that’s widely publicized. It’s called American Express Purchase Protection.

As you buy those gifts this year, think about how you might fix it if something was to happen to it.

It’s a pretty easy process, at least that what a Bryan, a buddy of mine told me. He bought a very nice briefcase and ended-up getting something all over it that ruined it. He bought it on his Blue Cash from American Express was able to get a brand new one. Sounds like a good deal.

How did he do it?

1. He used his American Express card when he paid – This is a major step.

2. If the item is lost, damaged, or stolen, file a claim with American Express Claims or call 1-800-322-1277. Make sure you have proof of theft, accidental damage, or vandalism.

3. A claim for is sent for further documentation, such as a receipt of purchase, credit card bill with the purchase on it, and description of the damage.

Note: You should know that there is a limit of $1,000 per occurrence and up to $50,000 per cardmember account per year.

American Express gets a bad rap sometimes about not being accepted everywhere because of the transaction fees being high, but American Express offers some of the best day-to-day perks you can ask for in a card.

Also, recently I was told that if you use your American Express Card at Costco to buy a TV, you will get an extra year warranty. How great is that.
