Citi® Gold / AAdvantage® World MasterCard®

I recently got snail mail from Citibank and American Airlines letting me know that if I sign-up for the Citi® Gold / AAdvantage® World MasterCard®, I can turn my 1646 miles into 46,646 miles – WOW. Would this be worth it? I don’t think so, because of where I am, however for some people it might be. This Citi credit card is a pretty good airline card. In the mail that I received, because I was pre-approved, they offered me the miles above, plus No Annual fee for the first year, two (2) Admiral Club passes, and 3 miles for every dollar I spend in the first 12 months. Not too shabby.

For the non-preapproved customers, you can go to www.citicards.com and see the basic offer they provide. It has 30,000 American Airlines AAdvantage® bonus miles – after making $750 in purchases in the first 4 months of card membership, onetime $50 statement credit for the 1st eligible American Airlines purchase made in the first 12 months of card membership, and1 AAdvantage® mile for every $1 spent on purchases. Which is not as nice as what I received, but still nice though.

I think that American Airlines is going to have to do something that has a “wow” factor to pull business away from the other airline companies.
