Things to Consider when Choosing a Cash Back Reward Card
While the decision to want to earn cash back may seem like an easy one, there are a few things to consider. The following is a list of things that you may want to evaluate before choosing the cash back credit card for you.
- Do you have good credit? If not, you most likely won't be accepted and therefore can't get a cash back reward card. Since the credit card company is paying you for your loyalty, they won't want to accept credit card holders who are a potential payment risk. If you do have good credit, there are some great offers out there. Most cash back cards are offering 1% back for every dollar you spend, but there are cards that will offer specials of up to 5% on certain purchases at various times of the year.
- What are the interest rates? Several cash back credit cards offer 0% introductory rates on purchases and balance transfers. What you don't want to be stuck with is a 25% interest rate card after it expires. Most aren't that way. The credit card companies are offering very competitive rates at the moment.
- Do you carry a balance? The consumers that reap the biggest benefit are the consumers who pay their bill off in full every month. They are getting paid simply for using the card to make everyday purchases. If you carry a balance and your 0% introductory rate expires, your interest will far out-weigh the rewards you earn.
- Is there an annual fee? While most cash back cards aren't charging annual free, it is worth noting. There are cards that do charge annual fees and earn you practically the same rewards as the credit cards that don't.
